Open Press Project at Affordable Art Fair 2018

Affordable Art Fair Battersea, London 17. - 21. October 2018

In October 2018 we had the chance to show the Open Press Project at the Affordable Art Fair in London! John Coe, the maker of the fantastic Pressing Matters Magazine, invited us into the Print Village.

Over the course of 5 days we showed the press to hundreds of people and lots of them went home with their own little print! Especially children were super happy when they printed their own tiny monoprints using cloth, plastic foil, string ... or garlic mesh! Soon enough they came up with their own materials, printed with coins or collected leaves.

The event convinced us once again that the press is super useful to show children how easy printmaking can be. Lots of the visitors of the art fair – including adults – had never printed before, so having a small scale press instead of an intimidating huge and heavy one works great! Being able to hold your own artwork in your hands in under a minute helped with that, too! We will definitely do more live printing like this in the future, since so many enjoyed it. Overall the art fair was extremely helpful for us. Talking to people face to face and receiving their feedback and ideas has helped us focus on the next steps.
